Hubert Fichte Panels

The Hubert Fichte boards belong to the family of Downward Force boards but with an emphasis on the floor that hosts them. We can say that the Hubert Fichte boards are considered as extensions of the floors where they are positioned. In this case the loss of calibration produced by the plane through inclination does not leave untouched the ground where an Hubert Fichte Board is placed; the Hubert Fichte board also institutes a necessary distance to the unstable material shown on it. It does not allow a closer look at the positioned material except at its bottom, creating a relation between the exhibited material, the floor and consequently the viewer's feet.

Used as a simple object in wireframe, the Huber Fichte structure can serve –when used in large numbers –as an indicator of a path in a wood or – if composed of aluminum elements – as a setting for provisional installations on a beach, where towels and other fabrics could substitute the rigid surfaces. An elementary tent would then serve as a mutation of the board to a hospitable resting place for enjoying the shadow and the light wind from the sea. Hubert Fichte was a controversial person who did extensive research related to pleasure, and because of his predilection for pleasure, was sometimes even accused of making it more important than his work, and even immoral in relation to his work. By definition, the Hubert Fichte board refutes this accusation by confirming that there is no possible strict boundary between the official and the unofficial use of it; a research process is always indicative of a personal involvement to any type of knowledge production. So a Hubert Fichte board can serve as a shadow machine for the beach and as an element for presenting two-dimensional material.
