Super Market Built Event 6

Super Market Built Event 6

Chania, Crete, August 2008

Super Market Built_Event 6 is a work that insists on an existing Super Market in Chania, Greece. The working group visited the super market space, the storehouses of it and the personnel places. The work concerns a local firm and poses the question of locality and universality in a concrete way. The super market is selected as a ruin of everyday life: a ruin represents here an ignored existence. The super market's banality is what is extraordinary with it. The place of a super market is so easily understood and that it becomes emptily significant: one enters it without thinking about it. We rarely believe that the super market could really consist an architectural problem. Firms have ready made plans for the interior of super markets. The position of the shelves and the setting of the merchandise are not to be discussed, architects are only used -sometimes- in order to cover the space; its function is predetermined, already decided through parameters that are rarely under discussion.
