Public Office

The Public Office is an "Island of Objects" constituted by a sequence of tables and benches. The objects that compose this setting are:

• 5 tables 250 x 60 x 72 cm (working surface height: 72 cm)
• 1 table 250 x 60 x 190 cm (working surface height: 72 cm)
• 3 benches 250 x 60 x 60 cm
• 1 bench 250 x 60 x 155 cm

The Public Office is an important part of the Empty University; it structures the working time in the University and also shows a direction for resting in it; it also organizes the field of personal work and personal discussion that takes place around the center areas of the university. As such we understand the spaces where people gather but also their extensions. Since this hierarchy of the main university spaces is broken the public office can also be understood as part of the core of the University.

The setting can be implemented in the proximity of good internet connection, coffee machines or coffee bar facilities since it organizes the environment of a silent, concentrated work. The public office challenges its relation to the reading room of a library. The public office is a convenient network space offered for the use of the university. On the surface of the benches some sets of headphones provide the field of a curated audio channel.
