Audio Salon

The Audio Salon is composed by 8 benches (200 x 60 x 155 cm) with high wooden partition surfaces (height 120 cm) and 8 sets of headphones. The disposition of the benches is proposed to create pairs of listeners that are meant to be together while they hear different programs; the setting is a place for curated sound listening in this particular paired horizontal position. The installation offers at the same time a stage for listening in this visible horizontal condition and also a place for a minimum rest.

The setting can receive different audio content; the Audio Salon is meant to be curated in order to perform educational functions in the Empty University; it can recite poetry, provide music recordings or recited theater. In a different curatorial transformation of the object, one of the lying people can give a talk or the lying people can speak to each other. The different possibilities of use in this rigid scenography show a performative structure; this “contentless structure” is organized by the installation. The Audio Salon was presented in documenta 14 in relation to Dmitri Prigov’s poetry.
