Abattoir Built Event 5

This Built_Event is a built story of an unfinished gathering of 6 persons (3 philosophers, 2 architects and an artist) in an abandoned abattoir in Hydra. The place where this Built_Event was programmed was scheduled in order to accept this meeting that would investigate tourism, sacrifice and the animal, using as an introduction the literature of Georges Bataille. The meeting was canceled because of the excellent location of the abattoir: The derelict building was given to the Greek Cypriot collector Dakis Joannou and it is the place that hosts a program including now shows from Matthew Barney, Elizabeth Peyton and Maurizio Catalan. Even canceled the project was presented as a narration of cancellation that can relate the 3 conditions (of an existing ruin, a philosophical investigation linked to the idiosyncratic place and the validation of the place through its use as a top art site. In the series of Built_Events, Number 4, as rescheduled after the change of its first concept, marks the shifting meaning concerning a ruin and its possible re-inclusion into a world of established values.
